Bionic Plus® sheep capsules will again be available for the 2025 season. Bionic capsules were removed from the market, along with all other controlled release capsules, as part of a requirement by the regulatory body, the ACVM, following some variabilities being detected in some products. Bionic Plus has since undergone rigorous testing to show its technology works completely in the manner it is supposed to do.
Containing the two drench actives albendazole and abamectin, along with the trace elements selenium and cobalt, Bionic Plus makes available another tool for farmers for their sheep management strategies.
The use of Bionic Plus strategically in ewe flocks (if more lambs can be drafted off their mums at weaning) may assist in reducing larval contamination on pastures which, combined with selenium and cobalt-rich milk being fed to lambs, may assist in then reducing overall drench usage. As well as controlling internal parasites, the trace element combination assists by supporting the immune system of both the ewe and the lamb.
At all times, it is important to have a carefully constructed parasite management plan to reduce and mitigate any resistance risks. Discussion with your Vetlife veterinarian is always encouraged, as they are trained in ways to approach these situations with a case-by-case approach. One size does not fit all.
At all times you should be monitoring the effectiveness of your drenches and what species are being affected on your farm. If using Bionic Plus in your flock this season, a drench check at 60 days post treatment is always advised, in order to check on the effectiveness of the application and to allow for any necessary mitigation steps. These, such as an exit drench, can thenbe applied without delay.
Bionic Plus may not be for everyone, but being available again this season is good news for many. Come in and have a conversation with our teams to formulate an effective parasite management plan that suits your operation
