Choose Prolaject this Spring to Help Kiwi Families

Guest author Frances Coles is a South Canterbury farmer and long-time supporter of Meet the Need, with first-hand experience of the difference food donations make to Kiwi families.

Is there anything more satisfying than being able to help someone out without having to go out of your way or do something extra special? If you’re supplementing your livestock with Prolaject™ products this spring, that’s exactly what you’ll be doing.

For the second year now, Elanco™ is providing a $5 donation to Meet the Need for every pack purchased before September 30 with a goal to raise up to $50,000 – enough to help provide 20,000 meals for Kiwi families experiencing food insecurity.

As someone who has enjoyed a long relationship with the Meet the Need charity from both sides of the process, I’d strongly encourage fellow farmers to support this great initiative.

While my husband Aaron and I and our business partners have supported Meat the Need through numerous cull cow donations over the years, I have also seen firsthand just how much of an impact those donations can make.

For five years, I was involved with the Geraldine branch of Bellyful, who received mince donations from Meet the Need for our cook-a-thons, where meals were prepared to be gifted to families in need. That could have been from situations such as the arrival of a new baby, a serious illness of a family member, or other significant event leading to short-term hardship.

The simple act of providing meals is demonstration of care and compassion that can have an immeasurable effect on Kiwi families going through a heavy time. And a small donation from farmers can go a very long way. Every $5 donation from the Prolaject promotion results in two high-protein meals being contributed to the donations flowing from Meet the Need to foodbanks and charities throughout Aotearoa.

Farmers are naturally community-minded people, and I know I have appreciated being able to support my own local community through my involvement with Meet the Need and Bellyful. It’s a privilege to have been able to see first-hand our donation leave the farm then be returned to our region in a form which provided nourishment to so many.

So when you’re vaccinating your stock this spring, please consider choosing a product that will help not only them, but also your local community.

For farmers and lifestylers who are unable to support the current Prolaject initiative, there are various other ways you can contribute to Meet the Need outlined on their website, www.meettheneed.org.nz.
